Principal
Holly Wells, M. Ed.
A familiar face in Hippo Nation has been named the new principal of Hutto ISD’s River Horse Academy and Hutto Virtual Academy for the upcoming school year. Ms. Holly Wells was appointed by the District’s Board of Trustees to lead the two academies which provide unique educational opportunities for Hutto ISD students.
“I am deeply honored and excited to accept the opportunity to lead one of our most unique campuses in Hippo Nation,” said Wells. “I appreciate the trust placed in me and recognize the responsibility that comes with this new role in making sure all students, despite their circumstances, are able to complete their educational journey in Hutto ISD.”
This school year marks her 15th year in public education and service to Hutto ISD. Wells most recently served as associate principal of Hutto High School — a position she’s held since June 2023 — following appointments as assistant principal at Hutto Middle School and serving as District Summer School Principal on four occasions.
Prior to taking on administrative roles within the District, Wells served as an instructional coach and reading specialist at Hutto Elementary from 2015-2017, and taught 4th grade at Nadine Johnson Elementary for five years.
As principal of RHA and HVA, Wells will oversee a staff that is dedicated to providing individualized pathways for accelerated graduation, high school equivalency and virtual learning for those students who opt for an alternative setting while completing their education or pursuing life and career opportunities. RHA is now in its 16th year and also incorporates blended learning methods through direct teacher instruction and Project Based Learning.
Wells holds multiple Texas teacher certifications and earned a master’s in educational administration from Concordia University and a bachelor’s of interdisciplinary studies from LeTourneau University.
Upon her appointment by the Hutto ISD Board of Trustees, Wells said, “I am committed to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for our students and staff, and collaborating with my colleagues to ensure that we meet the diverse needs of our growing community. I want to thank the Board for this incredible opportunity and look forward to continuing to contribute positively to our District.”
