Hutto ISD was awarded a grant from Raise Your Hand Texas, "a nonprofit organization that supports programmatic initiatives structured to identify, pilot, and scale systemic improvements in public education" (raiseyourhandtexas.org/foundation/), in order to implement Blended Learning as a new initiative for Hutto ISD. Blended Learning is a style in education which offers students learning via an online platform, but also offers support with a teacher in a traditional learning environment. RHA will be using the Flex Model to deliver blended learning. According to Blended Learning.org, the Flex Model involves the following: "1) A course in which the online learning is the backbone of student learning; 2) Students move on an individually customized, fluid schedule among learning modalities; 3) The teacher is on-site, and students learn mostly on the brick-and-mortar campus, except for any homeworks assignments; 4) The teacher of record or other adults provide face-to-face support on a flexible and adaptive as-needed basis through activities such as small-group instruction, group projects, and individual tutoring" (blendedlearning.org).
